- phobia; creeps, jitters, nervousness, willies; pang, qualm, twinge; agitation, apprehension, consternation, discomposure, disquiet, funk, perturbation; concern, dismay, worry; cowardice, faintheartedness, timidity, timorousness....These are the words I located on on the web when I looked up the word "Fear". Look for your self if you don't believe me sucker! Anywho, I was pondering this word today because of the way it affects so many people on a daily basis.....but why????? Look again at the picture on this blog. Public speaking is one of the most frightening activities people are sometimes asked to do. I admit that I had this fear before...... until I found the cure, which I will share shortly.
- In addition to the fear of public thinking consider a job interview, taking an exam, flying for the 1st time, cooking for your spouse, having a baby or learning to swim. These things are some causes for fear right? Well, here is the the solution I promised.........Drum roll please! It's simply called "ACTION". Peep this....During World War 2 the United States Navy made sure that all of its new recruits either knew how 2 swim or learned how to swim. This was done because the ability to swim might someday save the sailor's life at sea. Makes sense to me, because non-swimming recruits were put into swimming classes. No doubt, these men were fearful of all that water and knowing they will go in one way or another. The men basically had to jump in the water while a half dozen or so expert swimmers stood near to keep you from drowning most of the time???? The very FEAR these men faced was as real as real can get for some, but the only thing that stood in between conquering this fear was just one drop into the water below!!! On more than one occasion a recruit was "accidentally" pushed off the diving board into the water below with one common result. FEAR DEFEATED as all to many for Navy men can clearly recall.
- As I stated earlier, action cures FEAR. Once these men realize that it can be done, it becomes easier the next time. Recall NIKE shoes old saying "Just Do It", it was based off of fear. So this encouraged me to consider some solutions to 3 times of fear.
- 1. Fear of not doing good on a test....Action needed is turning worry time into study time. If you know what is expected of you how much better are your chances of success are.
- 2. Fear of not having enough $$$. Action needed is learn to manage current $$$ better, get a 2nd job or return to school for training in a desired field of interest.
- 3. Fear of public speaking. Know your topic by preparation, review and ask others for tips and believe in yourself and go out there and just do it.
- Basically, we must isolate our fears and determine what we are afraid of, then take action to over come it. But remember hesitation only enlarges or magnifies the fear if we fail to take action and be decisive.
- I am Ward....no longer fearful........
